Supporting the Quality of Our Holocaust Speakers

G2G speakers receive continuous support and training to ensure they deliver high quality, historically accurate and engaging presentations telling real Holocaust survivor stories.

All our presenters have a DBS Enhanced Certificate.

Our speaker training is based on one-to-one support and workshops.

    • “The presentation was outstanding.  It really captivated all the students, who sat engrossed for a whole hour (this is a rarity!). We will definitely share information and hope to use you again in the future.”
      Humanities teacher, Altwood School- Maidenhead
    • “Thank you for taking the time to show our students where unchallenged hatred, prejudice leads too. Your mum was a witness, you became a witness through her testimony and today we became witnesses in this terrible time in history.”
      Curriculum Leader, Plumstead Manor
    • “Feedback from students and staff alike was that the testimony was moving and informative. The research involved in the presentation was obvious and extensive as well as impressive and only served to add to the account given.”

    ONE-TO-ONE SUPPORT

    Mentoring

Presenters receive one-to-one mentoring over the course of about a year from an already accredited G2G presenter or a Holocaust educator to guide them through the process of development.

    Creative and Technical Advice

We provide support, advice and services to help presenters develop and manage their presentation. This includes the use of PowerPoint, video clips, subtitling, layout and formatting.

    Historical Advice

All our speakers are provided with support in researching, locating and verifying the historical background of their specific story.

“Thank you so much for your visit.  A superb presentation. Pitch, pace and tone is spot on for our students. They were spellbound by the stories and I know I will get a lot of questions in subsequent lessons. Your talk as absolutely compelling . The students will remember it for a long time.”

    WORKSHOPS

All our presenters are strongly encouraged to take part in the following workshops:

    Research Skills

Researching family histories, finding images and documents and ensuring historical accuracy.

How to access online research resources.

    Historical context

Myths about the Holocaust, and personal support for researching one’s history.

    Presentations Skills

Developing and improving one’s presentation and speaking skills for delivery in-person and online.

    Know your Audience

Tailoring one’s presentation for young audiences.

    Reflective Practice

Reflecting on one’s motivation for telling family Holocaust stories, and its emotional impact. Led by relevant professionals.

    Safeguarding

Guidance on how to ensure safety and security for yourself and your audience.

    • “It was immensely powerful for the audience to hear both from you and directly from your mother and of her incredibly courageous journey. The feedback has been really positive both during and after the ceremony. It was clear that the schoolchildren attending were engaged and making important connections between your mother’s story and the present day”
Councillor Janet Burgess MBE, Mayor of Islington 2020/21
    • “We thought the talk was the highlight of the event. Helen your presenting style really draws the audience in and your tone was both inclusive of the school children present whilst being in no way infantilising to the older audience. Your mother’s story is inspiring and the mixture of mediums, your speaking, pictures, physical objects and your mother’s video testimony gave a real depth to the story and key the talk engaging (particularly on Zoom.)  I should also say that you were incredibly easy to deal with in organising the event.”
From the organiser of the HMD event at Islington Council

    MONITORING QUALITY

Speakers with completed presentations are required to present to a panel of teachers and educators before becoming an accredited speaker.

The outcome is a presentation with a strong educational emphasis integrating eye-witness testimony, personal and historical photography and film, letters and other artefacts, with content fact-checked to ensure historical accuracy.
